The dream, the vision, for The House of Weddings was birthed in 2008 when Karen and Stuart Alsop visited Malaysia for the first time.

It was there in Kuala Lumper that they saw a variety of one-stop-wedding-shops, hosting bridal wear, photographers, make-up artists and other wedding vendors.

The concept in Malaysia however was vastly different to what Karen and Stuart wanted to create. In Malaysia one-stop-shops are a cut throat industry, where brides are shuffled in and shuffled out, given bargain basement prices and cheap products.

Karen and Stuart, though inspired by the initial concept seen overseas, desired to create a more exclusive venue, where Brides and Grooms could come, be given the royal treatment, and be sure that the vendors provided by The House of Weddings were reputable, quality suppliers that would service their wedding from start to finish.

The location of the House of Weddings, and the type of building was paramount to Karen and Stuart. They already knew they wanted to service the South East and beyond and base themselves in the boutique town of Berwick. It was also important to them that the venue be a large, prominent house, rather than a shop front. The feel of the House of Weddings, being a place where a couple can relax and enjoy their wedding planning experience was paramount.

Karen and Stuart located 1 Anne Street, and found it to be vacant and unused by the owners for 10 years. After consulting the owners over a period of 1 year, the agreement was settled and following some renovation to restore the Grand Old Mansion originally built by the Mayor, Karen and Stuart moved into The House of Weddings in December of 2009.

Currently The House of Weddings is home to Emerald Eye Photography - Karen and Stuart's own Wedding Photography business.
